We found some seriously colorful jewelry in the Los Angeles jewelry retail scene to feature in this week’s Retail Overview. We poked around downtown Los Angeles boutiques earlier in the day (everything was super drool worthy) and then headed over to Forever 21 at the Glendale Galleria to spruce up our personal collection without seriously denting the check book. If I had to sum it up in one word for you, it would be BRIGHT! If I was allowed two words… it would definitely be NEON TRIBAL!

We have been gaga over the neon tribal jewelry craze since last year. Living and working the Los Angeles fashion district, we definitely saw our share of this wacky, bright, pattern rich trend emerging last summer. Who would have known it would explode into a rainbow of neon this year?!?! Oh yeah, we did! We have been predicting a huge surge in this neon tribal jewelry craze to just gain in momentum and our eyes are oh so happy that it has arrived!

The walls at Forever 21 in the Glendale Galleria were lined with hues of brights and neones mixed with little pops of muted pastels. Tribal and animal prints rule the fabrics, with notable mention to striped and florals. We saw lots of distressed denim and tattered shirts… oh so much fringe! Even on the bathing suits! It is definitely going to be a fun summer!

So how does all of this translate into jewelry? Easy! Lots of seed beads, plastic, enamel and cord in bright, bright colors. All of those tribal and aztec patterns from the apparel industry are showing up on cuffs, rings, pendants and beaded into bracelets and necklaces. Seed beads are definitely a hot material for this coming summer and a must have for your jewelry collection as far as bracelets and necklaces go. Stackable bangles, mixed with wovens and beaded bracelet styles were all over the place. We have been seeing just wrists full of bracelets all over LA lately and we think this trend is going to dominate Summer. When in doubt of what you should buy… skip over the expensive necklace and go for a few bracelets.. you’ll get far more milage on your dollar!

And after seeing all that just came off the runway for Fall/Winter 2013… all we can say is this is only the beginning as far as neons are concerned. Embrace it, the brights are here to stay!
